hackerThe purpose of this tutorial is to give you tips on how to identify internet fraud and also protect yourself from being scammed. Thousands of people fall victim to internet fraud on a daily basis and the story is always heart breaking.

You should know that internet scammers are high tech personalities; most of them are programmers, black hat hackers, accountants. They have a high level of knowledge of how the internet works and how the financial institutions operate. They are very dangerous and tricky.

Wow, how do i save myself from these set of individuals? How do i prevent myself from being scammed? Don’t be scared, all you need is information because information is power. You need to know at least a little bit of what they know and you should also know how they operate…

Security Tips on how to prevent internet scam:

  • Do not release personal information to untrusted parties:  Beware! some scammers use random websites or google forms to request for your email, password, credit or debit card details, date of birth, phone number etc. Afterwards, they use these details to manipulate and take advantage of you. Do you know that the information on your ATM card (credit or debit card) is big enough to withdraw all the money you have in your bank account? Therefore, you should be very careful when you feel forms and release information online (and offline) because the information you provide can be used against you.

  • Avoid Greed: Did i just mention greed? Yes! 80% of victims of internet scam are greedy set of individuals who easily fall for mouth watering offers and big financial promises. Scammers are very smart, they know what you want, they know you want money and pleasure and so their come up with a beautiful package promising to give you big returns or profit. Some may even claim to give you free! gifts. They will ask you to fill some forms and provide them with vital information which will form the great scamming tool. Be wise… Whenever you see any offer online, try to double check just to make sure of what you are doing so that you don’t fall victim.
  • Never you release OTP to any stranger:  OTP simply stands for One time Pin or One time password. It is a password that is relevant or valid for a single login session or transaction on a computer system.
Why is it very important?  The OTP is very important and powerful simply because it gives a go-ahead order for a computer device to carry out a financial transaction or validate a log in session. OTP is generated automatically by computer and sent to your email or phone number to validate a process.  OTPWhenever, a stranger is requesting for your OTP, it simply means that the person must have initiated probably a financial transaction on your account waiting for your approval and once you release your OTP to him, he will use the OTP to validate(approve) the transaction. The next alart you get on your phone is likely going to be a debit alart, your money is gone (Lol, too bad).
  • Do not share your social media account with other people:  A friend of mine once told me that she was sharing her facebook account with a friend because her friend has no phone.  It is very risky to share your social media account with anybody because he/she can manipulate your login details and then use your social influence to scam people within your social circle and at the same time terminating your personality. Such a situations is more like an atomic bomb…
  • You should be careful of information you share on your social media:  The social media is a very powerful platform where millions of people share information. You should also know that the social media serve as the hunting ground for hackers and internet scammers. They are on the social media to find their potential victims. Their check your profile, your pictures, your posts to calculate if you are qualified to be scammed (very funny). Also, they use your profile information to track you down, manipulate your thoughts and finally, scam you. Be wise…

So in conclusion friends, be very careful with information you release because “Information is power”…. If you have any questions or contributions kindly use the comment session below. Don’t forget to share this tutorial to your friends on social media…
